    SEATING AUDITIONS
    : Spring 2012

Once you have auditioned and made it into the youth symphony you will need to audition once more to see where you will sit within your section. Seating audition materials are posted below. Please download this music and practice prior to auditions on January 23. Also posted below are YouTube links. We encourage you to listen then play along with the clip for effective practice.

    Seating Audition Music:

    Strings: Egmont Overture

All other instruments: Phantom of the Opera

Listen along to this YouTube clips: Egmont Overture, Phantom of the Opera 1 and Phantom of the Opera 2.

You will be asked to play two excerpts totaling one minute of playing time.

    A tip from Dr. Haberman:

"Each student will be asked to play 2 excerpts totaling 1 minute of material. Anything on the part is possible, but think like a conductor...what do I want to hear?  1) Something lyrical that you will phrase well and play with good pitch; this will probably be a moment in the piece that would be melodic or a solo. 2) Something technical to show time and technique; this will probably be something challenging on the page which will require some practicing effort and will include range issues as well.  Happy Practicing!"
